A Warm Bath

There is something heavenly about soaking in a warm bath. Maybe it’s the gorgeous shape of the bathtub itself inviting us to step right in, or the slowness in waiting for the running water to fill the tub.

So many details form the experience of getting ready to bathe. The preparation takes time. Softly gathering a bathrobe and a few plush towels, lining up sumptuous items on a bath tray, picking the right music and choosing delicately scented candles to place by the tub all play a part in relinquishing our worries and in the relaxation a bath promises.

It's said that beauty is all around us if we look. Bathing in a beautifully decorated bathroom gives our eyes the opportunity to land on something dainty, like a pretty piece of artwork or a pristine window covering, allowing for our eyes to rest as well. This visual connection is a passerelle between us and our immediate surroundings; a reminder that two should feel harmonious just about always.

Reading in a bath is a luxury, especially with a facecloth on our tray to dry our fingers as needed.

Baths are meditative. Fast-running shower water can at times feel too loud and harsh against the skin, while the gentle splash from moving around in the bath offers comfort and relaxation.

Baths also soothe sore muscles, reduce stress and increase quality of sleep. Adding therapeutic bath salts can help with the above ailments. They don’t lather like bubbles but are very gentle and provide some exfoliation. You can nourish your skin further with bath oils, like lavender, rose or aloe oils. Oatmeal works wonders too as it helps treat irritated skin and inflammation. Hydrating milks are also lovely as are rose petals. Bath water shouldn’t be too hot and limiting baths to once or twice a week, especially if the preference is to bathe for longer than fifteen minutes, may be a good idea.
